7ven Questions: Tito the creator

Tito the creator is on 7ven Questions! In this revealing interview, he lets us into his inner space!

SELE: You did a great job on 'the journey' .  Do you feel pressured to always make a statement as a teen growing up in Nigeria

TITO: Thank you for acknowledging the effort that was put into the creation of The Ep. It wasn't an easy one, but we did it against all odds. Well do I feel pressured? No.
Not at all. I'll say pressure comes when you are in competition with another person. I'm in competition with nothing but my past endeavors. I don't feel pressured to make a statement as a teen growing up in Nigeria, I actually feel elated every time I get the chance to record my lines and release them for public consumption.  I have a message and I want the world to hear it. It comes from a real place, somewhere in the deep recesses of my soul is a minefield of creative content waiting to be blown up.
I think I'll feel pressured if I don't write, if I don't record, if I don't do projects. The pressure reduces as I churn out materials.
So No, I don't feel pressured to ALWAYS make a statement. I relish every single opportunity I get to inspire and bless lives in anyway I can.

SELE: You dealt with a lot of issues on your debut EP. One of them is mental health issues. How true is the statement that depression is often overlooked in Nigeria.

TITO: Very true. Depression is not given enough thought and concern in this country of ours. It is a real problem that we as a nation don't even acknowledge talk less of address. Most parents I see think it is beneath them to talk about depression, they discard it as just a feeling that will pass. I feel If this issues are given much thought, it will vastly improve the productivity level of our youths in nation building and also build strength of character.
There's nothing more saddening than a young person Who should ooze youth and joy, depressed. It's wrong and should be given more thought

SELE: Are we going to be seeing more conscious music from you? How long do you think you can sustain it?

TITO:  Sure definitely. How long? Lol. Forever!!!! Although yes I will chip in some tracks here and there that are not entirely conscious, but yh, my forte is Conscious music.
Music with meaning
Music with messages
Music with inspiration
Music with teachings
Music with Mastermind🤣🤣

So yh. It's gon be what I'm known for

SELE: What is that secret talent you have that most people dont know?

TITO:  hmmmmm
Talent? I'm not one that hides my talents though. But I guess one that most people don't really know is my ..........

I don't know o. OK lemme just list my skills and talents. The ones they don't know they should pick
Rap, Sing, Instrumentalist, Creative writer, Poet, Speaker, Photographer, Cinematographer, Critical Thinker, Businessman, annoying Baby brother.
Okay I' was kidding on that last one  🤣🤣🤣

I guess that's it, for now

SELE: How important is it for young people to have a mentor or role model in their lives?

TITO: Very important, especially a mentor. Mentors are for guidance, every journey needs a guide. Be it a map or a person. Mentors make the journey swifter as they teach you both from their mistakes and their successes. Role models too, but always thrive to achieve more than your mentor or role model.

SELE: Amy Winehouse or Adele?

TITO:.      Amy
Why, I barely knew Amy. She died before I really really got into music. But her songs are still very well on my lips. (Valerie, Cherry wine etc)
Adele so beautiful. But I prefer a bottle of Wine on the house before I say Hello ....

SELE: If you had the opportunity to change anything in Nigeria. What would it be?

TITO: Nigerians
I'll change our mindset.
Nigerians make up Nigeria, so the Nigeria we have today is as a result of the Nigerians we had in the past and today.
If there's anything I would change, It'll be our mindset, the way we view things. We need problem solvers and critical thinkers in our country, we need strong willed, gritful citizens. We need warriors, Not run on the mill masses who don't want to be intentional about the future and take strategic actions towards prosperity.
Mindset change of all Nigerians who need it.
